"Senora
S" began studying Spanish during her senior year of high school.
She had just returned from a year living abroad in Denmark. It was
challenging readjusting to the Minnesotan high school and adding
another foreign language to her brain. Her love of languages led
her to major in Spanish with a Danish in Danish. She was fortunate
enough to live in Spain for two semesters getting to really focus
on the language, architecture and history of the country.
She finished
her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 2002 and
the day after graduation drove down to Chapel Hill. She soon began
teaching and tutoring Spanish and English. She worked in immersion
classrooms in Chapel Hill for two years while her weekends and nights
were spent playing in her band. In 2004 she received a scholarship
to go abroad and do some graduate work in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
She learned yet a different spin on the Spanish language and took
a couple of tango lessons as well. Upon returning she decided to
pursue her teaching licensure at UNCW. After getting married in
July 2007 she moved with her husband, who is also a Spanish teacher,
to Wilmington.
