Jan
Tremon-Jenkins has been in education and teaching in the public
schools, and various colleges for 28 years. Presently, she is getting
certified in Brain Gym. Her educational experiences began after
graduating from East Carolina University with a BFA in dance. She
has worked with the S.C. & N.C. Arts Councils/ Commission as
a Dance Educational Specialist in the public school traveling throughout
both states. Later, she attended UNC-Charlotte and received a dance
education certification and began teaching dance in the N.C. public
schools. Jan received a Masters of Liberal Arts Studies from Wesleyan
University in Middletown, Connecticut. Other areas of studies are
from East Carolina University where Jan completed a drama education
certification program as well as attending UNC-Wilmington and receiving
her K-6 Elementary Education Certification.Jan is also a certified
in Brain Gym 101.
Jan has continued her studies in the field of education by studying
multiple intelligence at Harvard University and with the Kagans
Institute in Orlando, Florida. She has also participated in specialized
studies in the arts at American University, D.C., University of
Utah, and Manhattenville College, N.Y.
Other educational experiences were as a lead teacher and facilitator
for the Curriculum Leadership Institute for the Arts with the S.C.
Arts in the Basis Curriculum program at Winthrop University. Presently,
Jan is an A+ Fellow with the A+ Institute that originally began
with the Kenan Institute and is presently under the Provost Office
at UNC-Greensboro. Each semester, Jan shares her knowledge on teaching
the curriculum through the arts and the Multiple Intelligence to
education majors during seminars prior to their student teaching
at UNC-Wilmington.
Jan is married to David B. Jenkins, Jr. who is an Investment Representative
with Edward Jones at the Lumina Station Office. They have one Olde
English Sheep dog named Bailey. Both Jan and Dave enjoy traveling
both on land as well as on the water sailing.
